Children of Lir
This elegant piece from Genesis Fine Arts stands a full 45cm high. The Children of Lir are part of Irish folklore. The story goes that long ago there lived a king called Lir. He lived happily with his wife and four children: Fionnuala, Aodh, Fiachra and Conn. They lived in a castle in the middle of a huge forest. Sadly, Lir's wife died but after a few years Lir married a woman named Aoife.
Aoife thought that Lir loved his children more than he loved her. Aoife was jealous of the children. Soon she thought of a plan to get rid of them.
One summer’s day Aoife took the children to swim in a lake near the castle. Suddenly Aoife took out a magic wand. There was a flash of light and the children were transformed into four beautiful swans, with their feathers as white as snow. This beautiful piece depicts the moment of transformation.
